Compatible Pumps
Which pumps does it take?
Two mounting options, and between them they cover most in-tank powerheads. What matters is how your pump attaches and how much it weighs—rather than who made it.
-
Magnet mount
Uses the magnet your pump already came with. It drops into a carrier on the arm, and the pump attaches to it exactly as it attaches to the glass. Three carrier sizes: 40 mm, 60 mm and 75 mm.
So the question isn't who made your pump — it's the diameter of its magnet. If it's one of those three (or in between), it fits. -
Mechanical mount — nothing magnetic in the water
A friction-fit cradle your pump slots into. No magnet goes in the tank at all. Currently made for the Jecod/Jebao SOW range.
Some reefers would rather not put a magnet in a marine tank. If that's you, this removes the question.
Jecod / Jebao SOW
Both mounting routes. The mechanical cradle was designed around this range.
D-D Funktion
Magnet mount only. These use the magnet the pump came with — there is no mechanical cradle for this range.
Magnet carriers come in 40, 60 and 75 mm, so any pump using one of those will mount, whoever made it. Measure your pump's magnet and pick the carrier at checkout. Tested means that pump has been on the rail here, not that it is the only thing that fits — the pumps above are simply the ones I own. The limit is thrust, not flow rate: 10 N maximum, which is SOW-15 class.
What a bigger pump costs you
The bearing carries the pump's thrust on a lever, and bearing life falls off sharply as that load rises — roughly with the cube of it. So the pump you fit sets how often the bearing needs replacing:
-
SOW-4 class (Approx 4000lts per hour)
Up to 2 N
Inspect at 3 years; replace on condition -
SOW-8 class (Approx 8000lts per hour)
Up to 6 N
Inspect annually; replace at 3 years -
SOW-15 class (Approx 15000lts per hour)
Up to 10 N
Replace annually (Assuming full speed and max arm extension).
The bearing is a bolt-in service part, and when it wears out, it's not the end of the product. But if you're running an SOW-15 or equivalent, that yearly job is a required part of the maintenance, and I'd rather tell you now than have you find it in a manual later.
Two free ways to extend it. Bearing life varies with the cube of the arm extension, so going from 280mm down to 230 mm nearly doubles it — use the shortest extension that puts the flow where you want it. And life is set by distance travelled, so halving the sweep speed doubles the interval. Neither costs you anything, and slower sweeps can work just as well.
Not on the list?
Not on the list?
That just means I haven't tested it yet. The list covers the pumps I've run on a unit myself, and it grows as more come through — customer reports included.
Send me the make and model, a photo of the pump and its magnet, and the magnet's diameter and thickness. I'll tell you straight away whether it fits. If it's a magnet size I don't yet cover, that's usually a quick change and it'll ship with your unit.
Not suitable (Yet!)
Gyre-style crossflow pumps are the wrong shape for either mount. DC return pumps aren't intended for in-tank use.
If you're unsure, send me the model and I'll check before you order.
Pump names are used to describe compatibility only. All trade marks belong to their owners, and there's no affiliation between Fusion Flow and any pump manufacturer.
An automatic discount applies to two units of the same size at checkout.
